vMix live translation
Translated captions in vMix.
Voclyn puts translated captions into vMix through a Web Browser input showing your room’s screen link. On an overlay channel, the sermon appears over your cameras in one or two languages, in the stream and in the recording.

How it works
vMix can show a web page as an input, and its help says the Web Browser input keeps a page’s transparent background (checked 30 October 2026). Every Voclyn room has a screen link: a web page of the service’s finished sentences in the languages you choose, with nothing behind them. Put it on an overlay channel and the captions sit over whatever input is live.
There is no plug-in to install. Voclyn hears the service from the sound desk, as it does for the phones in the room, so vMix needs no extra audio for the captions.
What you need
- A Voclyn plan with the big screen (Chapel, Church or Campus), or the free month. On Free, the link shows a notice instead of captions.
- Your room’s big screen link. In Voclyn, open Integrations and choose vMix: it builds the link with the settings below. It looks like
voclyn.com/<your-link>/screen. - vMix with its Web Browser input, and an overlay channel free for the captions.
- An internet connection on the vMix computer: the page connects to Voclyn the way a phone does.
Set it up, step by step
- Build the link. For Spanish under English on a see-through background:
https://voclyn.com/<your-link>/screen?langs=en,es&layout=lower&bg=transparent. - Add a Web Browser input. Add Input › Web Browser, paste the link as its URL, and set Width and Height to your output, such as 1920 and 1080. The page sizes its text for the whole picture.
- Put it on an overlay channel. Assign the input to an overlay channel and bring it on during the sermon. The captions sit in the lower third, inside the title-safe area.
- Go live. Hold to go live at the sound desk: the captions appear as the service begins. Rehearse once before Sunday with vMix recording, and watch it back.
Before the service, the same input shows a small plate with your QR code, “Scan for your language” and your link, so people at home can follow on their phone.
The settings that matter
| Setting | What it does in vMix |
|---|---|
layout=lower | Puts the captions in the lower third, each language’s name beside its text, with one or two languages. Without it, the page fills the frame with up to three. |
bg=transparent | A see-through page: the camera shows behind the words, which get a dark shadow and outline. Without it, the page is black and covers the picture. |
bg=chroma | A solid key colour behind the captions, for a switcher that keys a colour: green, or another set with key= and six hex digits, such as key=0000FF. |
lines=2 | Lines each language keeps on screen: 1, 2 or 3 (2 if you leave it out). |
langs=en,es | Which of the room’s languages to show, in that order; a lower third shows the first two. Without it, the room’s first two languages. |
Language codes are the ones in your per-language links, after ?l=. Settings go after a single ?, joined by &.
Not working? Check these
- The whole picture turns black. The link is missing
bg=transparent. - The captions are small or off to one side. The input is smaller than your output: set Width and Height to the output’s size.
- “Big screen captions come with the paid plans.” Your church is on Free; choose a plan in Billing.
- Your QR code shows, but no captions. The room isn’t live at the sound desk yet, or the desk has marked worship.
- A coloured box around the captions. With
bg=chroma, key that colour out, or switch tobg=transparent. - Nothing changed after you edited the link. Reload the input with vMix’s BrowserReload function, or remove the input and add it again.

Add Input › Web Browser with your Voclyn room's screen link plus ?layout=lower&bg=transparent, sized to your output, and put that input on an overlay channel during the sermon.
Yes: vMix's help says the Web Browser input supports transparent backgrounds, so the captions sit over your cameras with no key. For a switcher that keys a colour, use bg=chroma.
No. vMix shows the screen link like any web page, and Voclyn hears the service from the sound desk.
Yes, when the overlay is on the output you record: the captions are part of the picture.
