Phones

When the phones show nothing.

Start with the top of the phone. Voclyn’s listener page always says where the service is: Waiting, Live, Worship, Paused, Reconnecting or Offline. Each points somewhere else: the console, the phone’s connection or the link.

On the phones

What the phone is saying.

The listener page in each state, with its own words. Find the one in front of you.

  • WaitingThe room isn't live yet, or the console went live in another room.
  • WorshipThe desk chose Worship. Captions come back when it chooses Speech.
  • PausedThe desk chose Break. Captions come back when it chooses Speech.
  • ReconnectingThis phone lost its connection. The last words stay, and it catches up by itself.
  • OfflineNo connection for a minute. Join the Wi-Fi or use mobile data, then Retry.
  • Link isn't activeThe link or QR code doesn't match a room. Scan the code on the console.

What each screen means

The phone showsIt meansWhat to do
Waiting: “The service hasn't started yet.”The room hasn’t gone live, or the console is live in another room. Every room has its own link and code.At the desk, check the top bar names this room, and hold to go live. Phones start by themselves.
Live, but no new wordsThe service is running, and nobody is speaking or the console hears nothing.Look at the console’s Sound card: sound from the desk.
Worship: “Worship · captions resume when someone speaks”The desk chose Worship. Songs aren’t translated.Choose Speech (S) when someone speaks.
Paused: “Translation paused by the church. Captions will return shortly.”The desk chose Break.Choose Speech (S).
“A private moment. Captions will return shortly.”The desk is holding Private moment: captions are hidden and nothing is saved.Hold Private moment again to resume.
ReconnectingThis phone lost its connection for a moment. The last words stay on the page.Nothing: it catches up by itself. If it lasts, see Wi-Fi and mobile data.
Offline: “No connection. Check Wi-Fi or use mobile data.”The phone has had no connection for a minute, or knows it has none.Join the church Wi-Fi or turn on mobile data, then tap Retry.
“This church link isn’t active.”The link or QR code doesn’t match a room: mistyped, or the room’s link was changed.Scan the code on the console’s “Show the congregation” card. A changed link needs new printed codes.
“Translation is resting until next month. You're reading the words as spoken.”On Free, this month’s 6 hours are used, so phones read the words as spoken.Billing shows when they reset; a paid plan translates every service.

Check the console

  • Is it live, in this room? The top bar names the room and shows a red Live pill with the service clock. Not live means the service hasn’t started, or has ended.
  • Does it hear? The Sound card says “Good level” while someone speaks, and shows the language it hears.
  • Does it see the phones? The On phones card counts the phones following along, by language. A phone that isn’t counted is on another room’s link, or isn’t connected.
  • Is there a line along the bottom? The console says what is wrong there: what each message means.
  • One console sends the sound. Opening Go live for the same room on another device never takes the service: it shows “This service is live from another console.” It takes over only when someone there chooses Continue the service here.

Some phones work, others don't

  • Only on the church Wi-Fi? If phones on mobile data follow along, the Wi-Fi is the problem: Wi-Fi and mobile data.
  • Only in one language? If it’s one of your first three, the console’s big screen preview shows what those phones get; for another, open the listener page in it on a phone.
  • Only some people? Check they scanned this room’s code; another room’s code opens that room.
  • A phone left open since an earlier service picks up the new one by itself. If it looks stuck, reload the page.
  • Opened from a message? KakaoTalk, WeChat, Instagram and Facebook open links in their own browser. Captions work there; for the AI voice, open the page in Safari or Chrome.

Words, but not translated

  • The phone chose the language being spoken, so it reads the words as spoken, marked Original.
  • On Free, once the month’s 6 hours are used, every phone reads the words as spoken until they reset.
  • When a sentence can’t be translated, phones get it as spoken, marked Original, rather than a gap.

The room isn't live yet, or the console went live in a different room. Every room has its own link and QR code: hold to go live in the room whose code people scanned.

No. Captions start by themselves on every phone that has the page open.

It chose the language being spoken, or, on Free, the month's 6 hours are used, or one sentence couldn't be translated and was sent as spoken rather than left out.
